Backup Restore Checklist project cover
/ Overview

A dependency-free Python CLI that reviews recorded restore-drill checks and highlights failed or unverified recovery steps.

/ Challenge

A successful backup job does not establish that a restore drill was completed and validated. A small checklist can reveal missing review steps while keeping its claims limited to the evidence declarations supplied.

/ Provided services

Clear thinking.
Practical delivery.

01

Drill record review

Reviews backup identification, integrity, isolation, restore completion, data validation and application checks.

02

Evidence-aware aggregation

A declared pass needs a boolean evidence-recorded flag; failures and gaps remain visible.

03

Minimal reporting

Emits fixed check labels and states without copying arbitrary notes or extra record fields.

Backup Restore Checklist feature visual
/ Solution

Backup Restore Checklist reviews six fixed check IDs in a bounded local JSON record. Failed checks block completion; missing checks or passes without recorded evidence remain unverified. The report lists next checks and omits arbitrary notes. It does not inspect evidence, access backups, execute restores or independently prove recoverability.

/ Impact

Six fixed restore-drill checks

Pass, fail and unverified states

Evidence required for declared passes

Complete, incomplete and blocked roll-ups

Ordered next-check list

One-MiB input boundary

Text and JSON reports

Eleven standard-library tests

/ Tech stack

Python standard library

Argparse, pathlib and JSON provide a dependency-free local CLI.

Defensive validation

Rejects unsupported check IDs, invalid states and non-boolean evidence flags, with bounded file reads.

Unittest

Eleven tests cover completion, failures, missing evidence, privacy boundaries, input size and CLI JSON output.
